Red Stripe’s Mark McKenzie, on Wednesday, August 23, handed over the final installment on a $100M donation to the National Water Commission at a ceremony to commission into service many small water projects in St. Thomas. Minister of State responsible for water and sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. the Hon. Fenton Ferguson accepted the cheque valued at $25M.
According to Mr. McKenzie, “Red Stripe is pleased to be in partnership with the National Water Commission to be able to bring water supply to communities across Jamaica who would not be able otherwise to have access. More specifically, we are delighted to be here in St. Thomas to witness some of the improvements which will by extension improve the quality of lives of the people of St. Thomas.”
About 12 small projects were completed at a cost of approximately $25M and involved the upgrading of pumping equipment, replacement of sections of pipelines and the extension of pipelines to both restore service and improved service to beneficiary communities. Some of these communities include Dumfries Crescent, Spring Piece (Arcadia) Grossette, Unity Hall, Curtis Bottom – Land Top and Golden Grove.
Both Mr. McKenzie and Dr. Ferguson used the opportunity also to urge all the beneficiaries to take care of the facilities.
